Seminar on “The prevention of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria”
A seminar was conducted on “The prevention of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria” on the 28th of November at the OPA auditorium. It was jointly organized by the Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka and Independent Medical Practitioners’ Association, and sponsored by Country Coordinating Mechanism Sri Lanka. Dr. Vindya Kumarapeli, Director, National STD/AIDS Control Programme, Dr. Pramitha Shanthilatha, Director, National Programme Tuberculosis Control and Chest Diseases, and Dr. Pubudu Chulasiri, Consultant Community Physician, were the guest speakers at this event. The moderator was Dr. Kanthi Ariyaratne, Secretary, IMPA.
The speakers pointed out the importance of being vigilant and take proactive measure to prevent the spread of AIDS, Tuberculosis and malaria, as they posed a significant potential threat to public health. They also stressed the importance of the active participation of all stakeholders, urging the audience, which comprised of members of member associations of the OPA, to spread awareness and information in their respective professional groups in order to ensure the effectiveness of programs for the prevention and control of these diseases.
