Seminar on “Optimizing Traffic Flow: Strategies for Improving Road Productivity”
Over half a million vehicles enter Colombo every day, causing traffic blocks and resulting in a fuel cost of Rs. 100 billion each year. This was revealed at a recent seminar on “Optimizing Traffic Flow: Strategies for Improving Road Productivity” held at the Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka. The speakers were Dr. Tissa U. Liyanage, Immediate Past President SLSTL and CEO of Master Hellie’s Engineering Consultants (Pvt) Ltd, Dr. Kumara Hirumburegama, former Vice Chancellor – University of Colombo,Founder Dean, Faculty of Management, Kotalawela Defense University and President IIC and Mr. Madura Wijesinghe, Tata Commercial Vehicles Technical Engineer, DIMO.
The speakers highlighted the need for both traffic-based and transport-based solutions, as well as a change in the attitude and discipline of road users. The presentations were followed by a Q & A session moderated by President – IQPM, Mr. Linton Fernando.
